Help bring people together through experiences that enrich life in Syracuse and the surrounding region. Chautauqua-Wawasee is seeking an Executive Director who enjoys building relationships, connecting people with a purpose, and turning community support into meaningful programs.

This paid position starts at an average of 15 hours per week during the first year, with flexible scheduling and remote work available. The starting salary is $20,000 - $30,000 based on experience.

You’ll work alongside our Board of Directors and five established committees, with fundraising and donor relationships as your first priorities.
Your initial focus will be strengthening the support that makes our mission possible. You will:

  • Build relationships with individual donors, local businesses, and community partners.
  • Work with the Development Team to pursue donations, sponsorships, and grant opportunities.
  • Coordinate with the board and committees to support programs, volunteers, and ongoing operations.
  • Work with the Finance Team to help plan and monitor the budget.
  • Represent Chautauqua-Wawasee in the community alongside the Board President.
You will report to the Board President and work together to establish clear priorities appropriate to the position’s part-time hours.
What You’ll Bring
We’re looking for someone who:
  • Believes in our mission and has a strong interest in serving the Syracuse-Wawasee community.
  • Communicates clearly and builds positive relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Can help secure financial support and is comfortable asking others to invest in our mission.
  • Is organized, follows through, and works well with board members, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Has volunteer or community-service experience.
  • Can use Microsoft Office or similar tools for everyday communication, planning, and recordkeeping.
  • Is available for in-person meetings, programs, and community activities in the Syracuse-Wawasee area.
  • Familiarity with the local community is valuable. We also welcome candidates who bring relevant experience and a commitment to building strong local connections.
Experience in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, grant writing, financial management, or volunteer coordination is helpful. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience is preferred.

Our goal is for the position to grow toward full-time over two to three years. We will discuss the anticipated timeline, funding considerations, and expectations with candidates during the interview process. We hope to find someone interested in helping guide that longer-term growth.
